Billie Mackey Nichols

Billie Mackey Nichols, 44, died Saturday at a Galveston hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Potosi Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Kennedy officiating, directed by Girdner Brown Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nichols was born in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1973.

She moved to Angleton in 1994 and worked in the dry cleaning business in Lake Jackson. She married Bill Nichols in 1985 in Abilene.

Survivors include her husband, of Angleton; one son, Lavone Harwood of Abilene; one stepdaughter, Alicia Nichols; her mother, Wanda Malone of Abilene; one sister, Lisa Sanchez of Fort Worth; two brothers, James Mackey and Eddie Mackey, both of Abilene; one granddaughter and eight nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the funeral home this evening.

Doris Jones

Doris Jones, 72, of Abilene died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Antioch C.M.E. Church with the Rev. V.L. Brown Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellow Cemetery, directed by Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

Mrs. Jones was born in Blue Creek and had lived in Abilene since 1932. She was a member of Antioch C.M.E. Church.

Survivors include one son, Charles Jones Jr. of Abilene; one daughter, Linda McGee of Abilene; one brother, Joe Wilson Jr.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pauline Jones

Pauline Jones, 85, of Abilene died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Memorial Park with Roy Shake officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy. 277 South.

Mrs. Jones was born in Groesbeck and attended school in Harris (near Brownfield).

She moved to Abilene from Lueders in 1955. She was a homemaker and a member of 11th and Willis Church of Christ. She married T.W. “Jack” Jones in Roswell, N.M.; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Jack Jones of Hobbs, N.M., and Billy Joe Jones of Midland; one daughter, Helen Joy Vinson of Vacaville, Calif.; two sisters, Doris Carson and Lucille Greathouse, both of Yuba City, Calif.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary Fortune

BIG SPRING — Mary L. Fortune, 78, of Tyler and formerly of Big Spring and Midland, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at a Tyler hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Darrel Martin officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park.

Mrs. Fortune was born in Kennedale and had lived in Tyler since June, where she attended Mount Zion Baptist Church.

She retired after 26 years as a charge attendant nurse at Big Spring State Hospital. She was the widow of Theodore Douglas Fortune.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Fortune of Tyler; two daughters, Peggy Sproles of Midland and Billie Jean Johnson of Abilene; three brothers, Arthur Hendrix Jr. of Mabank, James Ray Hendrix of Dallas and Billy Robert Hendrix of Irving; three sisters, Evelyn Fort of Austin, Pearl Hancock of Dallas and Betty Mayhall of Irving; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Inza Martin

DALLAS — Inza Martin, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Kirk Cemetery near Waco, directed by Laurel Land Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin was a retired Sears employee and had worshipped at Cliffwood Church of Christ for more than 50 years.

She was the widow of Lee “Catfish” Martin.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Brisendine of Winnsboro; one son, Tommy Martin of Abilene; one sister, Pat Blackshear of Groesbeck; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Geneva Blanche ‘Billie’ Clark

ASPERMONT — Geneva Blanche “Billie” Clark, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at a local care home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Aspermont Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Hess officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Clark was born in Oklahoma and was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married James Albert Clark Jr. in 1949 in Morton.

Survivors include one daughter, Lyndia McNutt of Aspermont; two sons, Sidney Ford of Marion, Ill., and Neal Ford of Belleville, Ill; one stepdaughter, Ann Noble of Odessa; one brother, Henry Williams of Morton; two sisters, Ruby Patrick of Corpus Christi and Faye Sanders of Arlington; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Ethel Gray Merchant

BROWNWOOD — Ethel Gray Merchant, 94, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.

Mrs. Merchant was born in Rising Star and had lived in Brownwood since 1940. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Sam Merchant in 1920 in Duncan, Okla.; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Burnes and Wanda Williams, both of Brownwood; two sons, Wallace Merchant of Bryan and David Merchant of Kemp; two sisters, Vera Hammonds of Duncan and Veda McGlothlin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vera Cathey

COMANCHE — Vera Cathey, 81, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Upshaw and Dr. Van Christian officiating. Burial will be in Comanche Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Mrs. Cathey was born in Holder (Brown County) and was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She married Erbin Cathey in 1935 in Eastland; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Nelms of Comanche; two sisters, Dorothy Larsen of San Angelo and Lorenne Worff of Comanche; one brother, Willie Lee Richardson of Apple Valley, Calif.; one granddaughter, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7:30 p.m. today. Lunch for the family will be at noon Tuesday at Central Christian Church.

Una Mae Hays

MERKEL — Una Mae Hays, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hays was born in Tye and attended Abilene High School. She was a homemaker and a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Mission and Golden Saints. She married Bill Hays in 1934 in Abilene; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Carroll Hays of Copper Canyon; and two grandchildren, Jill Warren of Highland Village and Kelly Hays of Dallas.

Memorials may be made to Merkel Cemetery Association, 201 Edwards, Merkel TX 79536.

BIG SPRING — Pearl Watkins, 74, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at a Midland hospital. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Mount Olive Memorial park, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Delbert Hayes

NECESSITY — Delbert Hayes, 75, formerly of Breckenridge, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at an Abilene hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Necessity Baptist Church. Burial will be in Clear Fork Cemetery near Crystal Falls, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.

Joshua Cody Fielding

Joshua Cody Fielding, 16, of Abilene was killed in an automobile accident Saturday in Abilene. Services are pending with Community Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

James Lester, 78, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital. Services are pending with Community Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

Frances Rhoades

STEPHENVILLE — Frances Rhoades, 71, of Bluff Dale died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at a Granbury hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bluff Dale Baptist Church. Burial will be in Glenn Cemetery in Bluff Dale, directed by Stephenville Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today.
