Dec. 21 -- Winter
still weeks away for West Texans (JERRY DANIEL REED) Pay no mind to the calendar or the early weeks
weather. Were not about to start three months of hard winter.
Not according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,
which foresees for West Central Texas 90 days of warmer and drier
weather for the winter that begins Wednesday.
Aug. 23 -- Local
weather may benefit from Hurricane Bret:
West Texans didnt board up their windows, stock up on non-perishable
food items, or buy a lot of flashlight batteries when they heard
Hurricane Bret was coming to the Gulf Coast.
June 23 -- Rainfall
not enough to replenish lakes:
Despite above average rains in recent days, lakes in and around
Abilene are hardly a fraction of their full capacities, said Dwayne
Hargesheimer, director of the city water utilities.

Country churches pray, praise God for rain: The answer to his prayers came raining down on
the roof of Horace Hoskins home last Sunday. For weeks the
retired Nolan County farmer had been humbly asking God to send
some showers. And when they came, Hoskins laid awake in bed till

praising his heavenly Father.
