More rain to hit Abilene area

More rain is expected in Abilenes
forecast as well as a cold front at the end of the week.
Todays forecast calls for cloudy skies with highs in the
upper 70s and lows in the 60s, according to the National Weather
Service. Meteorologists predict a 60 percent chance of showers
and thunderstorms tonight when an upper-level disturbance moves
across the Big Country and taps into all the moisture in the air,
NWS meteorologist Greg Waller said.
Its not going to take much to generate showers and
thunderstorms Monday evening, he said.
A 30 percent to 50 percent chance of rain is predicted for Tuesday.
By the end of the week a cold front is expected to roll through.
According to the National Weather Service, about an inch of rain
fell on Abilene this past weekend. Rain totals are recorded at
Abilene Regional Airport. So far this month the city has gotten
4.59 inches of rain, which is two inches above the normal rainfall
for October.
But for the year, only 15.89 inches of rain
have fallen on Abilene almost six inches less than normal.
Its been so dry for so long, its not enough
to put a dent in the big picture, Waller said.
