Indian Relays: Newhouse tops meet

Abilene Christian University’s Shawntel Newhouse ran a 13.73 to win the women’s 100 hurdles Friday at the Indian Relays at McMurry University’s Indian Stadium.

Newhouse’s performance was good enough to automatically qualify her for the NCAA Division II national outdoor meet and was just one of a number outstanding performances at the meet.

Another top effort was turned in by former ACU sprinter Delloreen Ennis-London. Running unattached, Ennis-London was clocked in a blazing 11.63 in the 100 meters.

Winning events for the ACU Lady Wildcats were Marichea Austin in the 200 meters, April Rizzuto in the 10,000 meters, Tracey Gust in the high jump, Dawnyel Newhouse in the long jump, Hillerie Shelton in the triple jump and Geraldine George in the shot put and discus.

The ACU men’s team picked wins from Raji Hickey in the 400, Jason Prann in the 400 hurdles and the Wildcats’ 4x100 relay team.

McMurry’s only wins of the day came in the two pole vault events. Angela Parks won the women’s pole vault, while defending NCAA Division III national champion Brad Parris cleared a meet-record 17-1 to win the men’s event.

No team points were kept at the meet.
