Big Spring ISD names assistant superintendent
Reporter-News Staff Report

BIG SPRING — A woman will serve as assistant superintendent for the first time in the Big Spring Independent School District.

Newly named Superintendent Murray Murphy has named Esthela Aguirre to take his former job as assistant superintendent for personnel and instruction.

Aguirre holds three bachelor’s degrees in Spanish, elementary education and sociology, all from the University of Texas-Permian Basin. She holds a master’s degree in school administration and mid-management and has completed post-graduate work in the superintendent program at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.

Aguirre has served as curriculum director since 1998, when she was promoted from director of federal programs. She has also worked as a teacher at Marcy and Bauer elementary schools.

Big Spring trustees unanimously agreed to Aguirre’s selection, giving her a two-year contract that begins July 1 with an annual salary of $73,500.
