PRCA changes ahead

A bull-riding tour
with a minimum of 12 dates in 2003, a traveling rodeo tour format
in 2004 and a reduction in the number of events required to qualify
for the National Finals Rodeo were announced last week by the
Professional Rodeo Cowboys Associations Board of Directors
and PRCA event representatives.
Major changes included:
Bull Riding Tour
Beginning in 2003, a bull riding tour with a minimum of
12 telecast dates will be held in conjunction with existing rodeos.
Traveling Tour Format
The top 12 contestants from each event in the final 2003
World Standings will compete on an exclusive tour in 2004. Existing
rodeos will be used.
Marketing Development
The PRCA adopted the formal title of ProRodeo for marketing
and public relations purposes.
Rodeo Administration
Changes The number of rodeos that will count toward Wrangler
National Finals Rodeo qualification has been lowered from 125
to 75 in the roughstock events and 100 to 50 in the timed-events.

Aggies win title
Two Texas A&M
University coeds vying in the same event won the womens
team title in the College National Finals Rodeo last week in Casper,
Wyo.
Senior Kelsey Cox
of Del Rio and Johna Reeves, a freshman from Bay City, combined
their efforts in the Goat Tying short go-round to place second
and fourth, respectively. They scored a collective 450 points
for Texas A&M Universitys first national team championship
in rodeo.
Texas A&M competes
in the Southern Region of the NIRA, which consists of the eastern
half of Texas.
Western Texas College
in Snyder placed 7th in the womens division, Texas Tech
University placed 9th, and Tarleton State University placed 16th.
In the mens
division, Western Texas finished 14th and Howard College was 21st.
The Abilene-area
NIRA schools compete in the Southwest Region.

Cutting Horse Show, Nolan County Coliseum, Sweetwater
Today District
9 of the National Barrel Horse Association will sponsor an Open
4D, Youth and Senior 3D event today at the Hawley Arena. Exhibitions
begin at 2 p.m. Youth and Senior Classes cost $15 and the Open
Class cost $25.
