Another arrest in Edinburg massacre

Thursday, January 30, 2003

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - An eighth suspect has been taken into custody in the Jan. 5 fatal shootings of six men.

Police Chief Quirino Munoz said the 25-year-old man was picked up in the Edinburg area about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

A judge set bond for Salvador Solis of Edinburg at $30 million on Wednesday, police said. He is charged with six counts of capital murder.

Munoz said the case appears to be drug-related and has apparent gang overtones.

The killings came amid a hail of bullets at two homes sharing a lot in Edinburg. Bond for the suspects already in custody ranges from $18 million to $30 million.

All eight suspects -- each charged with six counts of capital murder for the killings -- remain in custody.
