Wednesday, January 29, 2003

AUSTIN (AP) - The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals rejected two appeals from death row inmates Wednesday.

Billy John Galloway, a parolee from South Dakota, was convicted of capital murder in the beating death of Maj. David Lawrence Logie of Fayetteville, N.C., in Hunt County in 1998. Police said Galloway and three accomplices lured Logie away from his hotel and ambushed him on the side of a road.

Ronnie Hyde was convicted of beating to death a 72-year-old man with a hammer during a 1998 robbery in Grimes County. The man had hired Grimes to help him around the house.

Monday, the court rejected the request for a stay of execution from Granville Riddle, who was 19 when he beat an Amarillo man to death during a home burglary in 1988.
