Fort Worth publisher named new TDNA president

AUSTIN (AP) - Wesley R. Turner, president and publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, has been named president of the Texas Daily Newspaper Association for 2003.

The association named Donnis Baggett, publisher and editor of the Bryan-College Station Eagle, was elected its vice president as of Jan. 1.

W. Lawrence Walker Jr., publisher and chief executive of the San Antonio Express-News, was elected treasurer; and Greg Shrader, editor and publisher of the Kerrville Daily Times, became chairman of the executive committee.

The TDNA also named four new directors to its board: Bob Carlquist, executive vice president and general manager of the Houston Chronicle; Jeremy L. Halbreich, chairman, president and chief executive of American Consolidated Media; Charles Moser, editor and publisher of The Banner-Press in Brenham; and Jim Wilson, publisher of the Weatherford Democrat and vice president and division manager of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.

Continuing directors are Larry Mayo, publisher of the Palestine Herald-Press; Roy McQueen, publisher of the Snyder Daily News; Jack D. Pate, president and publisher of the San Angelo Standard-Times; and Larry L. Rose, president and publisher of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

The TDNA, founded in 1921, is a trade association representing the state's daily newspapers in protecting public access to information and freedom of the press.
