HOUSTON (AP) - About 1,000 Army Reserve soldiers from a training division that prepares other
reservists were sent to mobilization units Wednesday as military forces continue gearing up for
possible war with Iraq.
After a morning ceremony at the Sgt. Maj. Macario Garcia U.S. Army Center, members of the
Houston-based 75th Division boarded buses to their new one-year assignments, unit spokesman Maj.
Wayne Marotto said Wednesday.
The division, which also includes four brigades with more than 1,000 soldiers in a seven-state area, will
ship out to Army forts in the central United States to train combat service and support units before
they deploy overseas for a possible war.
The rest of the unit will be shipped out on Feb. 10, Marotto said.
Military officials said that it was the first time since World War II the entire 75th Division has been
called up to active duty. The division normally trains Reserve and National Guard units during their
monthly or annual training sessions.
Marotto said the 75th consists mostly of senior officers with prior active-duty Army experience,
including those who served in the Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars. It was put on alert last month.
