VILLE PLATTE, La. (AP) - An offshore oil worker accused of dismembering a couple before stuffing
their bodies in plastic boxes has been transferred to Evangeline Parish.
Larry Suratt, 46, of Morrow, appeared in court briefly Tuesday to determine if he had an attorney or if
one would be appointed. Authorities would not detail what happened.
Suratt was booked in Ville Platte with two counts of first-degree murder Monday. He is accused of the
deaths of Sheila Kirby, 34, and Lawrence Cook, 40.
The couple, who lived in Lawtell but were from the Denison, Texas, area, was shot before their legs
were cut off so they would fit into storage boxes, investigators said.
Cook's body was found Jan. 5 along the Evangeline and Rapides parish line. A box containing Kirby's
body was found a week later about a half a mile from where Cook was found.
Suratt and Cook were both members of the Banshee motorcycle club. Investigators do not have a
motive in the murders, but say it may have involved a club issue.
Suratt was arrested last week in St. Landry Parish after investigators searched his home and found a
stolen motorcycle.
