Sunday, September 28, 2003
By the Associated Press
HOUSTON (AP) - Susan Bischoff has been promoted to associate editor and Kyrie O'Connor has been
named deputy managing editor at the Houston Chronicle.
The changes in newsroom leadership were announced Saturday by editor Jeff Cohen.
In three decades at the Chronicle, Bischoff served as reporter and business editor before moving to
features. She assumed the deputy managing editor role in 2000. The Indianapolis native recently was
named to the American Association of Sunday and Feature Editors Hall of Fame. She also serves on
the board of the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
O'Connor succeeds Bischoff as deputy managing editor for features. She comes to the Chronicle from
the Hartford (Conn.) Courant, which she joined in 1989 and most recently served as assistant
managing editor. The Rochester, N.Y., native is a 1976 graduate of Wesleyan University.
Cohen said Bischoff will report directly to him and help lead the newspaper into "new areas of
professional development and community involvement."
