AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A 34-year-old teacher at a Catholic school has been charged with indecency
with a child after being accused of improperly touching a 7-year-old girl at the school in early
December.
Gregory Robert Bullard was released from jail Saturday on $10,000 bond after his arrest.
Potter County authorities filed charges against Bullard on Friday after investigating allegations that he
had inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with the child at St. Mary's School in Amarillo on Dec. 4,
according to a news release from the Amarillo Police Department.
The charge was based on a complaint by another St. Mary's employee who observed the offense and
told Bullard to stop, according to a criminal complaint filed by 47th District Attorney Rebecca King's
office.
In a Jan. 23 letter to members of St. Mary's Parish and St. Mary's School Academy, Monsignor Harold
Waldow, parish administrator for the Diocese of Amarillo, apologized to parents whose children attend
St. Mary's.
"When inappropriate conduct of the teacher was first discovered, the teacher was immediately
suspended, the contract was terminated, and authorities were notified," the letter says.
The letter said parents were not immediately notified of the incident because of the criminal
investigation, Waldow said.
"That parents were not immediately notified is not comforting, but it is the policy of the police
department and child protective services. The parish and school staff would prefer quick reporting to all
the parents, but it is not wise to override the civil authorities in this matter."
Authorities interviewed children in the particular class involved, Waldow said.
