Roby ISD hires new superintendent
ROBY -- When it came to hiring a new superintendent, the Roby
school board went with a known quantity.
Jeff McClure not only is a 1971 graduate of Roby High School
-- where he was salutatorian of his class -- and a former teacher
at Rotan, he is also a former vice president of the board that
hired him.
In fact, he was on the board when it hired George Price, the
superintendent McClure will replace. Price is retiring.
McClure served on the Roby school board from 1986-92 while
he was teaching at Rotan and operating a Roby insurance agency.
He will be returning home from Cotton Center, where he has been
principal for six years.
McClure will begin work in Roby on July 1. He was given a two-year
contract at $55,000 per year.
At Roby High School, McClure was active in FFA and a Lone Star
Farmer recipient. He later was named state vice president for
Young Farmers of Texas. He graduated from Abilene Christian University
in 1981 after interrupting his college education to help run McClures,
Inc., in Roby and design and supervised the construction of a
14-ton prescription blend fertilizer facility.
While teaching at Rotan, 1989-92, he commuted to ACU and earned
a master's degree in education in mid management, graduating with
a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
The 44-year-old McClure is divorced. He has a 16-year-old son,
Chance, who will be a senior.
