Today's Obituaries (March 3, 1998)

The Rev. Edward Clark

The Rev. Edward A. Clark, 74, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South, with the Revs. Mike Patterson and Oscar Fanning officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Clark was born in Cherokee, Okla., where he attended public schools. He moved to Abilene from Perry, Okla., in 1982. He worked for Halliburton, then retired after a 28-year career as a minister in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a member of Wylie Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He married Mary T. Carter in 1942 in Medicine Lodge, Kan.

Survivors include his wife of Abilene; three sons, Dean Clark and Wayne Clark, both of Abilene and Gary Clark of Arlington; twin brothers, Marvin Clark of Cherokee and Melvin Clark of Bovina; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 41, Abilene 79604; or Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene 79604.

Troy Lee Milliken

Troy Lee Milliken, 76, of Abilene died Sunday at his home.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Lubbock. Local arrangements were handled by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Milliken was born in Wilson where he attended school. He moved to Abilene from Pleasanton in 1969. He was a truck driver for Pride Oil Company for 30 years and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include four brothers, Raymond Milliken and Pat Milliken both of Lubbock and Douglas Milliken and Robert Milliken both of Slaton; two sisters, Bravis Smith of Baytown and Carol Fogg of Windham, Maine; nine nieces and nephews and a companion, Fay Hubbard of Abilene.

Bertha Vashaw

Bertha L. Vashaw, 64, a lifetime resident of Abilene, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.

A prayer service will be held at 6:15 p.m. today at Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Bush officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Vashaw was born in Abilene and graduated from Wylie High School as valedictorian in 1951. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the church choir and was a past member of Sweet Adelines. She was employed by 7th Supply Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base as a secretary.

Survivors include three sisters, Betty Biddle of Big Spring, Peggy Kirchner of Abilene and Dorothy Vashaw of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 209 S. Danville Drive, Abilene 79605.

Gilbert Hilton Suber

MERKEL -- Gilbert Hilton Suber, 93, died Friday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Suber was born in Frost and had lived in Merkel since 1916. He attended school in Merkel and was a barber from 1923-1985. He was also a carpenter and a farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He married Imogene Gullion in 1926 in Merkel; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, G.H. Suber of Odessa; one daughter, Mary Idell Selmon of Odessa; one brother, Othar Suber of Merkel; one sister, Lois Dyess of Merkel; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, S. 3rd and Locust, Merkel 79536.

Marie Louise Koch Wallace

BANGS -- Marie Louise Koch Wallace, 86, of San Angelo and formerly of Bangs, died Sunday at a San Angelo hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Mrs. Wallace was born in Bangs and also lived in the Mount Zion community before moving to San Angelo several years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married V.W. ÒSamÓ Wallace in 1933 in Brownwood.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Frances Justus of Frisco; one son, Royce Wallace of San Angelo; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Madrine Glenn

COLORADO CITY -- Madrine Glenn, 79, formerly of Cisco, died Sunday at a Lubbock hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ted Spear officiating, assisted by the Rev. Oscar Fanning. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Cisco Cemetery.

Mrs. Glenn was born in Colorado City, had worked in the registrar's office at Cisco Junior College and was secretary for the Cisco Chamber of Commerce. She also had a catering service and was a member of First Baptist Church in Colorado City. She married Ralph Glenn in 1940 in Colorado City.

Survivors include her husband of Colorado City; two daughters, Doris Wagner of Corrales, N.M., and Marsha Glenn of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Romaine Hammond and Ed Warren Hammond both of Colorado City; and three sisters, Doris Hill of Abernathy, Mary Ellen Kennedy of Colorado City and Marjorie Dykstra of Arlington.

Memorials may be made to Heart of West Texas Hospice or the Mitchell County Hospital Foundation.

Velma Reed

SYLVESTER -- Velma Reed, 92, died Sunday at a Sweetwater care center.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Roby Church of Christ with Wardell Halliburton officiating. Burial will be in Sylvester Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.

Mrs. Reed was born in Gregg County and moved to Fisher County in 1913 from Gladewater. She was a homemaker and a member of Roby Church of Christ. She married James Reed in 1967; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Reed of Sweetwater, Harold Reed of Sylvester and Billy Wayne Reed of Roby; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A. Preston Morris

COLORADO CITY -- A. Preston Morris, 71, died Monday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Sammy Elliott and Fred Smith officiating. Burial will be in Handley Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Mr. Morris was born in Mitchell County and was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and of various boards in the county, including Mitchell County Hospital board of trustees. He married Jean Lankford in 1983 in Colorado City.

Survivors include his wife of Colorado City; three sons, Tommy Morris and Kirk Morris both of Colorado City, and Scott Morris of Snyder; one brother, Price Morris of Marble Falls; two sisters, Cleda Goswick of Hobbs, N.M., and Betty Dockery of Colorado City; and 11 grandchildren.

Thomas Lloyd Connel

TULSA, Okla. -- Thomas Lloyd Connel, 81, brother of two Abilene men, died Saturday. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at 29th and Yale Church of Christ, directed by Ninde Funeral Directors.

Billy Doran Durham Sr.

SNYDER -- Billy Doran Durham Sr., 74, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.

Leah Chalker

BRECKENRIDGE -- Leah Chalker, 90, died Monday at a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, directed by Melton Funeral Home.

Tommy Hubbard

BIG SPRING -- Tommy C. Hubbard, 68, died Sunday at a Dallas hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Almeda Taylor

BROWNWOOD -- Almeda Taylor, 84, of Early died Monday at a local hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wolf Valley Cemetery, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.

Guadalupe 'Robert' Garcia

BALLINGER -- Guadalupe M. 'Robert' Garcia, 58, of Houston and formerly of Ballinger, died Monday at a Houston hospital. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.

Lester Wilbanks

BIG SPRING -- Lester Wilbanks, 90, died Sunday at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Garland Sanders

BIG SPRING -- Garland Sanders, 89, died Monday at a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Baptist Temple, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Vernon Hayden

BRECKENRIDGE -- Vernon Hayden died Monday at a Graham hospital. Services are pending with Morehart Mortuary.
