4-5A Predictions

Abilene High vs. Lubbock Monterey - Abilene High knocked off Monterey last year, 45-7. The Eagles are coming off a big performance by their defense a week ago and will ride that for win No. 2. AHS 31, Monterey 6

Cooper vs. Killeen High - Cooper and Killeen are expected to go against the norm when it comes to high school football. Traditionally, offenses at the high school level are centered around a strong running game. The Cougars have too many good receivers and not enough experience in the backfield to rely on tradition. Killeen also unveiled a new offense during a scrimmage last week, going some times without a huddle. Expect a shootout. Cooper 38, Kileen 31

Midland Lee vs. El Paso Coronado - Midland Lee is known for its football program. El Paso schools are known to be - to put it nicely - a bit below in the talent department when pitted against schools at the 5A level. Lee 33, Coronado 3

Odessa Permian vs. El Paso Irvin - See above explanation. Permian 30, Irvin 13

Odessa High vs. El Paso Montwood - OK, we can't use the same reasoning for three games. OHS is coming off a 37-0 victory over El Paso Soccoro. After making the playoffs a year ago, the Bronchos are looking for a repeat season. OHS 23, Montwood 7

Midland High vs. El Paso Austin - Quarterback Laynce Nix and running back Shemond Davis are looking to lead a Bulldog team to a better season than their 2-7 finish a year ago. The Bulldogs get number one under their belt against the Panthers. MHS 17, Austin 13
