Abilene Christian High School celebrated homecoming with a bang, as the Panthers routed the Midland Trinity Chargers, 63-18, Friday at Elmer Gray Stadium in a game that was called in the fourth quarter due to the 45-point mercy rule.
Austin Cunningham led the way for the Panthers (4-1) with four catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Cunningham recorded 14 solo tackles, assisted on 11 others, intercepted a pass and caused a fumble.
Cody Bell, who threw the two touchdowns to Cunningham, finished the night with 235 yards passing with five TD passes.
Other recipients of Bell's touchdown passes were David Wilson, Scott Woodlock and Nick Williams. Woodlock and Williams also scored on runs of 24 and 16 yards, respectively.
Williams added a 35-yard TD pass from Louis Lerma and Ryan Davis ran a touchdown from six yards out.
Jeesoung Yi scored twice for Midland Trinity (1-3) on runs of 15 and five yards. Nathan Pirtle added a 20-yard run for the Chargers' other score.
