Albany 28, Hawley 14

ALBANY -- Brian Bartee fueled a 21-point second quarter with a 74-yard kickoff return, and Tony Wheeler threw for 168 yards as Albany remained undefeated by surviving a scare from winless Hawley, 28-14.

The Bearcats (0-8 overall, 0-3 District 8-2A) took a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter on a Jesse Nieto 1-yard run. But on the ensuing kickoff, Bartee returned it for a score, tying the game and swinging the momentum. Bartee put the Lions (8-0, 3-0) on top for good with a 1-yard score with 3:50 left in the first half.

Albany extended the lead to 21-7 just before the half on Wheeler's 25-yard pass to Marcos Alcatraz.

Hawley bit into the deficit on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Nieto to Eric Loya, but Wheeler's 6-yard run early in the fourth completed the scoring.

Wheeler completed 10 of 15 passes, including a perfect 7-for-7 second quarter. Alcatraz ran for 144 yards on 24 carries.
