Brownwood 28, Cleburne 21

BROWNWOOD -- Colby Freeman atoned for a first-half interception by running for two touchdowns in a decisive second half -- including the game-winning score with 1:09 left in the game -- as Brownwood rallied for a 28-21 District 6-4A victory over Cleburne.

The Lions (7-1) took a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter after a Deacon Burns 61-yard punt return and a Freeman 1-yard run.

The Yellowjackets (6-2) then scored 21 unanswered points and took a 21-14 lead at halftime. Cleo Chandler scored on a 3-yard run, then tied the game when he intercepted a Freeman pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.

In the first half's final minute, Cleburne took the lead on a 42-yard pass from Sam Parker to Jordan Brinkley.

But Freeman, who rushed for 160 yards and threw for 81 more, did all of the scoring in the second half. His 40-yard run with 7:33 left in the third quarter tied it at 21, then a 1-yard burst with just 1:09 left gave the Lions the go-ahead score.
