De Leon 15, Dublin 7
DUBLIN - De Leon's Bearcats beat the Dublin Lions, 15-7, here Friday with a tenacious defense that sacked the Dublin quarterback seven times and picked off four passes.
De Leon took a 15-0 lead early in the fourth period and held on to go to 3-1 for the year while Dublin drops to 2-2. The old rivals are both in Class A, but in different districts.
Bobby Schuman put De Leon in front with a 19-yard TD run late in the first quarter. Luke Mix kicked the PAT.
The teams battled on even terms until early in the fourth quarter when Ryan Warren scored a controversial TD on a 12-yard pass fromn Andrew Leal. Dublin players and fans contended Leal didn't have control of the ball in the end zone and that it hit the turf. The officials saw it as six points, however.
Shuman's run for the bonus points made it 15-0.
Dublin tightened it up on a nine yard pass from Jeremy Jennings to Joey Shelton with 6:45 left, but it was too little, too late. Dublin drops to 2-2 while De Leon improves to 3-1.
