SAN SABA -- Goldthwaite improved its chances of gaining the state 2A playoff with a 20-0 shutout of rival San Saba here Friday.

The Eagles now are 6-2 and 4-1 in District 25-2A, second behind unbeaten and No. 3 state-ranked Winters. San Saba is 0-8 overall.

Kris Wright and Billy Deeds scored rushing TDs for the Eagles while Steven Miles and Josh Stewart teamed on a 64-yard pass play. Miles also rushed for 89 yards.

Goldthwaite had 309 total yards to just 76 for San Saba.
