Gorman 19, Lometa 13

GORMAN - Cody Foster hit Margarito Sanchez with a 25-yard TD pass with only 42 seconds left in the game to lead the Gorman Panthers to a 19-13 win over the Lometa Hornets in the District 14-A opener here Friday.

The heroics - actually the second TD connection of the night for the Gorman pair - wiped out Lometa's tying touchdown which came with 3:56 left in the game.

It came on a pass also, a 29-yarder from Will Dickison to Rocky Schlegel. Dickison's PAT kick made it 13-13.

Gorman had taken a 7-0 lead on a seven-yard run by Dathan Wright with 1:03 left in the first period. Richard Svarosky booted the PAT.

Lometa drew within one point midway through the second period on a one-yard run by Steven Maddox. The PAT failed, however.

Gorman got some breathing room in the third quarter when Foster lofted a 25-yard TD pass to Sanchez. The PAT failed, however, and that enabled Lometa to tie the score late in the fourth quarter.

In addition to his touchdown catches, Sanchezhad 18 rushes for 131 yards.

Gorman is now 3-1 for the year, while Lometa drops to 2-2.
