Eastland 32, Merkel 6

EASTLAND - Daryl Graham caught a pair of touchdown passes Justin Wharton to lead Eastland past Merkel, 32-6, Friday night for the Mavericks first win of the season.

Merkel (0-4) took the early lead in the game, when Rusty Holmes scored from four yards out. A failed PAT gave the badges a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Eastland (1-3) answered when Graham caught his first of two touchdown receptions on a 17 pass from Wharton to put Eastland up 7-6.

Nathan Kidd added a 2-yard run to give the Mavericks a 14-6 lead at the half.

Graham extended the Mavericks' lead to 20-6 in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard TD pass from Wharton.

Kidd added a 9-yard touchdown run and Danny Arnold recovered a Merkel fumble in the end zone to give Eastland its final 32-6 margin of victory.

In all, Graham caught four passes for 76 yards and Kidd rushed for 56 yards on 17 carries.

Merkel, which fumbled seven time and lost five, was led by Henry White and Cody Doan. Both ran for 71 yards on the night for the Badgers.
