Odessa Permian 35, Midland High 7

MIDLAND -- Koefie Powell scored three touchdowns but it was a long pass interception return that sparked Odessa Permian to a 35-7 win over Midland High here Friday night.

Permian now is 6-1 overall and, at 3-0, the only unbeaten team in District 4-5A after state-ranked Midland Lee lost 21-14 to Abilene Cooper. The Panthers and Rebels meet next week.

Midland is 4-4 and 1-2.

Powell scored on a short run and Roy Williams caught a TD pass from Leland Morris to put Permian on top 14-0. That advantage went to 20-0 when Desmond Hill returned a pass interception 75 yards.

Midland's Shemond Davis scored on a 4-yard run to make it 20-7 at halftime.

Permian got insurance TDs from Powell in each of the final quarters to put away the Bulldogs.

Powell had 201 yards to lead all ballcarriers while Midland's Davis had 135.

Midland had 22-19 advantage in first downs and 359-351 in total yards.
