Players of the Week

Here are the final area high school football players of the
week for the 1998 season as selected by the Abilene Reporter-News:
- Offensive player of the week: Brownwood quarterback Colby
Freeman completed 10 of 14 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns
and rushed eight times for 118 yards in a 38-7 win over Burleson.
- Honorable mention: Jim Ned quarterback Cole Egger ran for
two touchdowns and passed for the other, guiding the Indians to
two fourth-quarter scores for an 18-7 win over Hawley. The Bearcats
got 220 yards rushing on 34 carries from Charles Carey. Justin
Rivera had 162 yards rushing (16 carries) and a touchdown and
Jeremy Riney gained 112 yards (12 carries) and four touchdowns
in Baird's 42-19 win over Cross Plains. Cooper receiver Adam Riddle
caught five passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns before breaking
his collarbone in a 41-14 win over Abilene High. Colorado City
running back Terry Green gained 144 yards on 14 carries and scored
three touchdowns in a 35-7 win over Slaton. Goldthwaite quarterback
Steven Miles rushed 14 times for 170 yards and one touchdown,
while Billy Deeds scored three touchdowns totaling 100 yards in
a 41-12 win over Hamilton. Stephenville quarterback Kelan Luker
completed 9 of 13 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns and
Zac Hunter rushed for 158 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown
in a 65-14 win over Granbury.
- Defensive player of the week: Rising Star linebacker Randy
McGinn had 14 solo and eight assisted tackles, a sack and returned
an intercepted pass for a touchdown in a 32-13 win over Evant,
the Wildcats' only victory of the year.
- Honorable mention: Throckmorton lineman Brandon Jackson had
nine unassisted and seven assisted tackles and caused a fumble
in a 41-8 win over Crowell.
- All-around player of the week: Kevin Voss of Throckmorton
carried five times for 104 yards and a touchdown, had six unassisted
tackles, assisted two others and intercepted two passes in the
win over Crowell.
- Six-Man player of the week: Panther Creek back Ray Buse rushed
17 times for 224 yards and four touchdowns in a 64-40 win over
previously unbeaten Cherokee.
n Honorable mention: Rule back Brian Lehrmann caught three
touchdown passes and ran for two others in a 58-28 win over Guthrie.
Panther Creek's Stephen Loyd had 132 yards on 12 carries and three
touchdowns, while Billy Delgadillo had 16 solo tackles. Woodson
back Scott Johnson completed 10 of 16 passes for 204 yards and
two touchdowns and he ran 33 times for 198 yards and five touchdowns
in a 68-34 win over Paint Creek. Highland beat Trent, 70-22, as
Steve Lomas ran for four touchdowns and Juan Rodriguez scored
three touchdowns and kicked eight extra points. Westbrook quarterback
Sam Harless completed 17 of 28 passes for 224 yards and three
touchdowns in a 34-24 win over Ira. Blanket's Ben Bundick rushed
for two touchdowns, returned two interceptions for scores and
kicked four extra points in a 45-28 win over Zephyr.
