Aug. 31 -- Cowboys should make the playoffs this year (Candy Reagan): Based on what I've seen of the Dallas Cowboys thus far, I'm predicting they win it all this season. In fact, Thursday night's preseason game between the Cowboys and Jaguars was quite possibly a preview of the Super Bowl, only next time, the outcome will be different.

Aug. 31 -- Explaining the making of a draw in tennis (Rick Meyers): Have you ever wondered how they make a draw for a tournament like the U.S. Open? For all of the Grand Slam tournaments, they have a 128-player draw. With a 128 draw, there will be 16 seeds which are determined according to the world rankings that come out every Monday.

Aug. 31 -- Abilene Western kicks off at the Expo Center today: Locals Bill Burns, Billy Green and Meredith McCullar get their turns in the non-pro classic class today as the aged events get underway in the eighth addition of the Abiene Western at the Taylor County Expo Center.

Aug. 31 -- Prairie Dogs split doubleheader with Crickets: Keith Abrego's three-run home run off Alvin Cantu in the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game propelled the Abilene Prairie Dogs to a 9-4 victory over the Lubbock Crickets.

Aug. 31 -- Prairie Dogs already making plans for off-season: With the Abilene Prairie Dogs out of playoff contention and in their final series of the regular season, players, managers and office personnel are making plans for the off-season.

Aug. 29 -- Volleyball Roundup: AHS advances to championship bracket ... Lady 'Cats earn win in LCU tournament

Aug. 28 -- AHS Eagles open season against highly touted tailback: Abilene High's quest to end a 39-year playoff drought begins tonight when the Eagles' open the season against Amarillo Tascosa at Shotwell Stadium.

Aug. 28 -- Regular season starts for seven area teams tonight: Normally, area high schools would be involved in football scrimmages tonight. But for seven teams, the regular season starts.

Aug. 28 -- Cougars dominate Rider in scrimmage: WICHITA FALLS - Cooper got 308 yards passing from quarterback Jeremy Janssen, who threw three touchdown passes to Adam Riddle, as the Cougars dominated Wichita Falls Rider in their football scrimmage 8-2 Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.

Aug. 28 -- ACHS Panthers start season with new coach: A new era will begin at 7:30 p.m. today when the Abilene Christian Panthers take the field to face Paint Creek.

Aug. 28 -- Grand slam powers Prairie Dogs to win: LAFAYETTE, La. - Rookie Keith Abrego sparked Abilene to a 4-0 lead Thursday night with the first grand slam of his pro career as the Prairie Dogs went on to a 13-2 baseball victory over the Lafayette Bayou Bullfrogs.

Aug. 28 -- Aviators announce three new players: After announcing three new additions Thursday, one might say the Abilene Aviators lean to the right. The Aviators added two right wingers and a defenseman to the club, bringing the number of players with contracts up to seven.

Aug. 28 -- High school tennis poll: HOUSTON - Here is the preseason Texas high school tennis poll (Classes 4A and 5A only) as determined by the Texas Tennis Coaches Association:

Aug. 27 -- Friday night game will be 'reunion' for Southalls (Bill Hart): There will be a family reunion of sorts Friday night when the Brownwood Lions open the football season against San Angelo Central at San Angelo Stadium.

Aug. 27 -- Reconfigured track passes inspection by Dale Jarrett (Ted Dunnam): Before a quick pit stop Monday in Dallas, Dale Jarrett and Jeremy Mayfield scooted on over to Texas Motor Speedway to test the recently reconfigured track.

Aug. 27 -- Cougars playing Rider in scrimmage today: The Cooper football team travels to Wichita Falls today to meet the Rider Raiders in a scrimmage, but it's not the way Cougar head coach Randy Allen wanted the game to be played.

Aug. 26 -- Both AHS and CHS football coaches ready for season to start: The high school football season can unofficially be declared underway. There hasn't been a football snapped, there hasn't been a touchdown scored, and no team has registered a victory or a loss.
