Dec. 29 -- Aspermont's Hunter gives Hornets' their sting: The Aspermont Hornets had their best football season ever by winning 14 games and reaching the Class A semifinal. One of the reasons was running back Zach Hunter.

Dec. 20 -- Bowler taken to hospital after heart attack, head injury (Mae Fraser): Last Tuesday night Bob White was running late for his Tuesday Night Men's League at Abilene Bowling Lanes.

Dec. 19 -- Aviators overpower Russian team with different style of play: There were many things different about the Abilene Aviators' game Friday night at the Taylor County Coliseum: different uniforms, a different team from a different country, but the biggest difference was the styles of hockey.

Dec. 19 -- La Marque faces high-powered Stephenville offense: IRVING -- Either Stephenville or La Marque has a Class 4A state football championship since 1993. One of them will continue the streak today when the two teams clash for the Division II title.

Dec. 5 -- Trinidad 88, Strawn 40: JOSHUA -- Damien Jackson ran roughshod Friday night over Srawn as the Trinidad Trojans posted an 88-40 victory over the Greyhounds in the state Six-Man football semifinals.

Dec. 4 -- Baird fans interested in outcome of Menard-Aspermont game (Bill Hart): Last Sunday morning after church services at Baird, three people asked me who was going to win tonight's Menard-Aspermont Class A quarterfinal football game.

Dec. 4 -- Aviators return home tonight: The Abilene Aviators lost one of their enforcers late Monday night, but this time it wasn't to a suspension.

Dec. 4 -- Aspermont to play Menard for spot in semifinals: Aspermont and Menard, two high schools who never have been in the football playoffs this long, will battle tonight at Wylie's Bulldog Stadium for a berth in the Class A semifinals.

Dec. 4 -- Goldthwaite battles for regional title: BUDA -- The Goldthwaite Eagles will try to do something tonight that few, if any, other football teams have done. And that is to reach the Class 2A Division II semifinals from a third of the state's four regions.

Dec. 4 -- Yellow Jackets face speedy Wichita Falls team: IRVING -- The Stephenville Yellow Jackets and their pass-happy offense will face one of Class 4A's quickest secondaries tonight in this Division II quarterfinals game at Texas Stadium.

Dec. 4 -- Strawn must win rematch against Trinidad: JOSHUA -- The Strawn Greyhounds know what they have to do if they are to gain a spot in the Six-Man state championship game next week.

Dec. 3 -- Strawn coach wants to avoid repeat of last year’s Trinidad game: One might have thought the Strawn High School administration would have burned the game film of last year’s second round Six-Man football playoff loss to Trinidad.

Dec. 3 -- Polk would welcome a Lady Eagles/Thunderbirds rematch: Lubbock Coronado is the favorite to repeat as champion of the Polk-Key City Classic girls basketball tournament, but Abilene High coach Pat Mouser is glad the Lady Thunderbirds are back.

Dec. 1 -- Goldthwaite defense packs a punch: GOLDTHWAITE - Prior to the 1993 Class 2A state championship, a sports writer from East Texas watched both Paul Pewitt and Goldthwaite warm up. He noticed how little the Goldthwaite players were and commented that Paul Pewitt should beat the Eagles by 50 points. Goldthwaite, despite being outweighed, won, 21-8.
