compare young Korean to LPGA's Se Ri Pak (Ted Dunnam): The comparisons are obvious, and, for other junior
golfers, probably a bit scary. And those comparisons can hardly
be overlooked.
July 31 -- Prairie

in and out of the Abilene Prairie Dogs' locker room continued
to go around this week as the Dogs' acquired shortstop Victor
Rosario from the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings for Jose Parra.

the Fake Troy theory (Mark Wilson):
WICHITA FALLS - We've heard it all before, and now I know why.

writers, of course).
July 28 -- AJGA

July 19 -- Morgan
won't be a Cowboy until he's through with the Air Force: WICHITA FALLS - Beau knows commitment. No, it's

Speedway: Here are Saturday
night's results from Abilene Speedway.
July 12 -- Sports Opinion: Maybe
it's time Wimbledon got with the program: I appreciate the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet

or the finger holes are too small?
July 11 -- A few
notes and quotes while looking back over the past week in sports

Bubela gave himself a nice birthday gift Wednesday night, and

Cairo with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning
as the Prairie Dogs posted a 3-2 triumph over Amarillo.
July 9 -- Dogs
make trade for good defensive player (Mark Wilson): Abilene manager Barry Jones recently made a trade
for Sergio Cairo, hoping that he will provide the Prairie Dogs

be pleased.

piece of the puzzle in putting together a new hockey team when
they announced the signing of goalie Tony Martino recently.
July 8 -- Spud
Webb tells local youngsters how to be successful: No one looked up to Spud Webb. They didn't have
to. At 5-7, Webb isn't any taller than many of the campers he
spoke to Tuesday at the Athletes Against Drugs basketball camp
at Hardin-Simmons University's Mabee Complex. But the 12-year
NBA veteran was a giant in the youngsters' eyes as he encouraged
them to work hard, stay in school and remain alcohol- and drug-free.
July 8 -- Hamblin's
divine intervention ... Part II (Al Pickett): Several years ago, I wrote a column about David
Hamblin's use of divine intervention on the golf course. I was
playing in a charity tournament at the time with the pastor at
St. Paul United Methodist Church when he sank a putt from at least

in 1995 after his senior year at Lubbock Christian University.
July 7 -- Dillas
rock Prairie Dogs, 15-4: The
Amarillo Dillas are the second-best hitting team in the Texas-Louisiana
League, but that fact didn't make Monday night's game any easier
for Abilene player/manager Barry Jones to take. Amarillo, which
came into the game averaging 11.3 runs per outing, with a .329
team batting average, unloaded 20 hits off of five Prairie Dog
pitchers in a 15-4 blowout at Scott Field.

Coors Trophy Saddles and checks for $3,478 as champions in the
1.5 roping of the 12th annual Original Team Roping Finals.
July 6 -- Why
don't the fans lock someone out for a change? (Candy Reagan): I'm tired of strikes, lockouts, labor agreements,
labor disagreements, players' associations, wealthy athletes who
don't want to play and wealthy owners who don't want to pay. It's
time we, the fans, had a strike of our own. Let's lock out. After
all, we have demands, too.

Speedway: Results of Saturday
night's action.
July 5 -- Prairie
Dogs defeat Crickets again:
Walk plus double equals offense. That was the simple formula Abilene
used to knock off Lubbock for their third win in a row, 2-1, in
front of 3,449 fans on a Fourth of July night Saturday at Scott
Field. Notes
July 5 -- A dishful
of smorgasbord for Sunday breakfast (Bill Hart): Sports smorgasbord, while wondering whatever happened

Mike Funderburg.
July 5 -- You missed
something last night (Opinion):
Having grown up in a small town, there was always something wonderfully
relaxing about the Fourth of July.
July 5 -- All
in the family at team roping competition: Usually the Douglass family of Sylvester can be

Sue running the office and announcing chores and sister Ashley
working the timing devices.
July 5 -- He's
as good at the net as he is with the bat: Bryce Hicks, the bat boy, became Bryce Hicks, the
net boy Saturday. The top-seeded Hicks, who is in his third year

in the Abilene Highway 80 tennis tournament.

Hoss" in shock about getting into the Hall of Fame (Bill
Hart): Many years ago, a college
football coach remarked that track and field sprinters didn't
make good running backs because they were accustomed to running
in a straight line. Stick a football under their arm and they
became a different-type runner. Perhaps he was referring to their
mental toughness.
July 4 -- AHS junior
peaking as Highway 80 tournament begins: Wes Longacre is learning to build points the old
fashioned way - with patience, one stroke at a time. Longacre,
the top seed in boys 16 singles in the three-day Abilene Highway
80 tennis tournament that began Friday at Rose Park Tennis Center,
is coming off his best tournament performance ever.
July 4 -- Prairie
Dogs hang on for 11-10 win: Fireworks,

record in the long jump - but he won't. Dilworth, 24, a former
track standout at Abilene Christian University, plans to break
the world mark of 29 feet, 43/4 inches at some point in the next
two years.
July 3 -- Heat
may be keeping Highway 80 tournament numbers low: Having officially reached at least 100 degrees
10 times this summer in Abilene may have something to do with
the fact that entries in the Abilene Highway 80 tennis tournament
are down significantly.
July 3 -- Prairie
Dogs split twinbill: GREENVILLE,
Miss. - George Preston pitched three scoreless innings of relief
to give the Abilene Prairie a 6-4 victory and a split of a Texas-Louisiana
