Oct. 28 -- Playing on one of West Texas' newest golf courses (Al Pickett): Sometimes I think we have it backwards. Oct. 26 -- You won't get much sympathy here for whining athletes (Candy Reagan): I'm tired of hearing professional athletes whine about their rights to privacy. Some people would say that other sports need major changes but tennis doesn't. What brings up this subject is that the International Tennis Federation had been considering abolishing the let, meaning that a service receiver must play a let serve.

And in most years in this decade, Wylie has been involved in that key game. The Bulldogs have been to the playoffs four straight years and six of the last eight years.

Oct. 22 -- Buffaloes and Javelinas should make it interesting (Ted Dunnam): It was difficult - no, make that impossible - to refrain from hysterical laughter when Ron Harms said his team would be an underdog when it plays West Texas A&M Saturday. Funny thing is, he's right - if you're a hard-core believer in national rankings.

Oct. 22 -- Aviators have brain as well as brawn: Abilene right wing Stephen Maltby is no dummy. A quick view of his transcripts would confirm that fact. Maltby, who was born in a small town in New Brunswick, Canada, went to undergraduate school at Yale. He picked up a double major in psychology and economics.

Oct. 22 -- Cougars have their own version of the Three Amigos: In the mid-1980's the Denver Broncos had three wide receivers nicknamed the Three Amigos - Mark Jackson, Vance Johnson and Ricky Nattiel. This year's Cooper football team could use the same moniker.
