PRINT THIS PAGE | E-MAIL THIS PAGE Texas Sports Writers name Class 2A baseball team BRYAN, Texas (AP) - Keith Whatley, who was 13-2 and led Atlanta to the state championship, has been named Class 3A player of the year by the Texas Sports Writers Association. Whatley had a 1.20 earned run average with 125 strikeouts. The University of Houston signee, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs, batted .470 with 50 runs scored. Crockett was the only school with more than one player on the first all-state team with catcher Paul Richmond and first baseman Tyrone Colter being selected. Here is the 1998 Class 3A all-state team, as named by the TSWA: FIRST TEAM Pitchers: Corey Bush, Waco Robinson, sr.; Brad Dusek, Hallettsville, sr.; and Keith Whatley, Atlanta, sr.
