Oklahoma 76, Texas A&M 66

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) -- The Texas A&M Aggies were tougher than Oklahoma expected, but they weren't tough enough for the Sooners.

Corey Brewer scored 19 points and Oklahoma held off a Texas A&M rally Saturday for a 76-66 victory, the Sooners' seventh consecutive.

Oklahoma (12-4, 3-0 Big 12) led 38-27 at halftime, but the Aggies (6-7, 0-3) came back and tied the game 56-56 on Shanne Jones' steal and layup with 7:48 remaining.

Jones was fouled on the play but missed his free throw and the Aggies never led in the game.

"When we tied the game we missed the free throw to put us in the lead and missed a dunk during that time," said Texas A&M coach Tony Barone.

"I thought we rushed some shots and that's not from being selfish, that's from players trying to be the guy to put us ahead. There's a burning desire to get it done and that's the main cause."

Texas A&M pulled within 62-58 with 5:20 to go, but a 3-pointer by Brewer sparked a 7-0 run that helped Oklahoma put the game away.

The Aggies resorted to fouling Oklahoma down the stretch, but the Sooners made them pay.

"Free throws were big down the stretch," said OU forward Eric Martin. "Texas A&M is strong and athletic. They were stronger and more athletic than we thought they would be."

Brewer also sounded surprised by the Aggies' effort.

"From the start, the game was more physical than I thought it would be," he said. "Texas A&M is very aggressive. ... There was a point in the game that we didn't respect them and they tied the game."

The Sooners also got 15 points from Evan Wiley and 12 each from Michael Johnson and Martin. Eduardo Najera had 10 rebounds.

Jones led the Aggies with 13 points, while Brian Barone had 12 and Larry Thompson 10.

Neither team shot well. Oklahoma hit 22 of 51 shots from the field (43 percent), while the Aggies hit 26 of 68 (38 percent). The Sooners, however, were able to make 27 of 38 free-throw attempts.
