Outstanding high school football performances

A fullback matched a national record for carries in a schoolboy
football game, while a senior quarterback led his team out of
a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to earn mention in this week's
Associated Press honor roll.
Outstanding outings from high school football games last weekend
included:
ALL-AROUND EFFORTS
- Junior fullback Chris Nelms (5-11, 175) equaled a national
record with 60 carries in Teague's 34-20 victory over Groesbeck.
Nelms' performance included four touchdowns with 301 yards rushing.
- Bobby Washington scored all three Wilmer-Hutchins touchdowns
in last weekend's 22-17 upset victory over eighth-ranked Corsicana.
He also blocked a field goal in the game's final three minutes.
- Quarterback Travis Johns led Mansfield back from a 16-point
fourth-quarter deficit against Arlington with a touchdown and
2-point conversion. He completed 20 of 31 passes for 391 yards.
- Colby Freeman ran for three touchdowns and passed for another
in No. 6 Brownwood's last-period comeback victory over Crowley,
43-35, that also included the senior quarterback's 224 yards rushing
on only eight carries.
- Quarterback Leal Roberson was 6-of-15 for 62 yards and a
touchdown in Baytown Lee's 38-28 victory over Westbrook. He also
rushed 23 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns.
- Brooks Harris was 7-of-15 for 125 yards and had 10 rushes
for 79 yards and a touchdown, also kicking an extra point in Katy
Taylor's 20-13 loss to Mayde Creek.
ON THE GROUND
- Reggie Duncan ran for 207 yards on 13 carries and scored
touchdown runs of 7 and 36 yards as No. 4 Killeen Ellison beat
previously unbeaten Copperas Cove, 43-17.
- Fullback Luis Padilla was greater San Antonio's leading rusher,
with a 201-yard effort and four touchdowns as Floresville beat
San Antonio Southside 26-9.
- Running back Frank Gorom had 24 carries for 211 yards and
three touchdowns as Texas City beat Friendswood 35-14.
- Brookshire Royal's Thomas Tarver had 24 carries for 260 yards
and four touchdowns in the 33-22 victory over Ganado.
- Willie Williams had 13 carries for 244 yards and two touchdowns
as Galena Park North Shore beat South Houston 34-13.
- Earl Demas had 14 carries for 240 yards and three touchdowns
in Houston King's 27-12 victory over Houston Smiley.
- Jeffery Hearron carried 24 times for 228 yards and a touchdown
in White Oak's 40-27 victory over Spring Hill.
THROUGH THE AIR
- Cody Coburn and Jody Coburn, twin brothers who are both wide
receivers, made 10 catches for 204 combined yards and a touchdown
in Port Neches-Groves' 28-7 victory over Vidor.
Cody caught four passes for 132 yards and the 76-yard scoring
pass while Jody grabbed six passes for 72 yards.
- Receiver Walter Hays had nine catches for 152 yards and two
touchdowns in Angleton's 34-14 victory over Clear Lake.
- Quarterback Craig Harris was 16-of-22 for 362 yards and two
touchdowns as Aldine Nimitz defeated Aldine 41-34.
- Quarterback Brent Brothers was 12 of 15 for 183 yards and
two touchdowns in Angleton's 34-14 victory over Clear Lake.
- Taking over for an injured quarterback, sophomore Nathan
Sawyer was 9-of-24 for 328 yards including three touchdowns in
Fort Stockton's 63-27 loss to No. 9 Sweetwater.
- Ryan Johnson completed all five of his pass attempts for
111 yards and three touchdowns in White Oak's 40-27 victory over
Spring Hill.
DEFENSE
- Otis Grigsby held San Antonio Churchill to 39 rushing yards
in Judson's 24-14 victory. The senior linebacker had 11 tackles,
eight unassisted, and one sack.
- Oscar Blackshire finished with four tackles, a forced fumble
and an interception in Carthage's 19-12 victory over Whitehouse.
- Justin McMinn had 20 tackles and an interception for Waco
Midway.
SPECIAL TEAMS
- Erik Hargrave kicked a 45-yard field goal in overtime to
lift fifth-ranked Longview to a 24-21 victory over Lufkin at Lobo
Stadium.
- Dewayne Wages kicked fields goals of 47 and 24 yards in Hallsville's
15-12 loss to Kilgore. Wages also averaged 39 yards on four punts,
with efforts of 65 and 63 yards to his credit.
