football game Friday COMFORT, Texas (AP) - The day after Thanksgiving is often said
to be the busiest shopping day of the year, but many Comfort merchants
won't even open their doors. They'll be too busy watching a football game. By 11 a.m. Friday, most of the 1,500 Comfort residents will
be in San Antonio's Alamodome watching the Comfort Bobcats (12-0)
battle Brookshire-Royal (10-1) in the Class 2A Division I regional
finals. "In 50 years of football, we've never been 12-0,"
Kathy Bohn said as she painted Bobcat slogans on the front windows
of her flower shop Tuesday morning. Bohn has extra reason to close her shop Friday: Her son, Ashley
Brooks, is one of the team's defensive ends. Superintendent Marlin Marcum said it'll be mighty quiet around
Comfort. "I think the town may be empty," he told the San
Antonio Express-News. "The businesses left open are going
to have to rely on out-of-town customers." School officials visited the Alamodome Tuesday to check out
the surroundings. "Just looking at the marquee that said 'Comfort Bobcats'
was an awesome feeling," said coach Paul Talbert. As many as 2,000 Bobcat fans are expected to travel the 47
miles to the Alamodome after holding a 7:30 a.m. pep rally in
Comfort. The Bobcats boast an offense that averages 44 points and 449
yards - 407 of it rushing - per game. Running back Dereck Syfert
gained 1,514 yards and scored 22 touchdowns, and Jim Allerkamp
added 954 yards and nine TDs.
