Aggies return to old reliable Wrecking Crew defense

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M knows what to do when its offense falters - go back to the old reliable Wrecking Crew defense.

The Aggies (7-1, 4-0 in Big 12) used a trick play, an 8-yard touchdown pass by punter Shane Lechler, and stout fourth quarter defense to hold off Texas Tech 17-10 Saturday.

"To play as poorly as our offense did and come out with a win says a lot for the character of our team," quarterback Randy McCown said. "Thank God for the Wrecking Crew."

McCown had two fumbles and an interception in the first half before the defense took control.

The Aggie defense held Tech to 205 yards and star tailback Ricky Williams to 94 yards. The Aggies managed 232 offensive yards.
