plan HOUSTON (AP) - A deal reportedly has been reached in a dispute
that's slowed Houston's effort to attract a new NFL franchise. Houston television station KRIV reported today that a deal
has been reached between the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
and a Houston group that has been wooing the NFL. That deal resolves all issues on how a new football stadium
for the NFL and the rodeo will be financed, KRIV reported. The station quoted unidentified sources as saying the deal
came after three days of talks, including a 14-hour marathon session
that ended at 3 a.m. today. The deal is expected to be signed later today by businessman
Bob McNair, who is leading Houston's NFL campaign, as well as
by Houston Mayor Lee Brown and officials with Harris County, the
rodeo and the Houston Sports Authority. It will then go before
NFL owners next week, the station reported. The $311 million project would be located near the Astrodome
and will be designed to house an NFL team and the rodeo. Houston had an NFL franchise from 1970-1996 before the team
was moved to Tennessee.
