relief pitcher Matt Whiteside on irrevocable waivers Monday for
the purupose of giving him his unconditional release. The team also placed right-handed relievers Xavier Hernandez
and Danny Patterson on the 15-day disabled list. Both are recovering
from off-season surgery on their pitching shoulders. Whiteside has been with the Rangers organization since the
1990 draft. In all or part of six seasons with the Rangers, he compiled
a 14-10 record with a 4.61 ERA in 223 appearances.
