Heisman Poll: UT's Williams holds lead

By Scripps Howard News Service

Ricky Williams maintained his lead in this week's Scripps Howard News Service Heisman Trophy poll, and UCLA's Cade McNown regained second place after falling into a second-place tie with Kentucky's Tim Couch last week.

Williams continued his assault on the NCAA record book, running for 259 yards and two touchdowns in Texas' 30-20 win over Baylor. The two scores gave him 428 career points, making him the leading scorer in NCAA Division I-A history. He needs 444 yards - 111 a game over the Longhorns' remaining four games - to become the NCAA's Division I career rushing leader. Tony Dorsett's record is 6,082 yards.

Syracuse's Donovan McNabb and Kansas State's Michael Bishop are tied for fourth in the poll.

The 10 voters - two each from five regions of the nation - vote for five players, with five points for a first-place vote, four for a second-place vote, etc.
