team is going to have something in common with its owner - a nickname. After more than a month of fan voting in a contest to rename
the team that's relocating to Round Rock in 2000, club president
Reid Ryan said the team will be called the Round Rock Express. The moniker comes from the pitching legend himself, who was
nicknamed the "Ryan Express" for his locomotive-like
fastball. "It didn't surprise me," Reid Ryan said of the voting.
"When they had a chance, the people of this area choose to
honor Nolan Ryan." The future Hall of Famer, his son and Houston businessman Don
Sanders have purchased the Class AA Jackson Generals of the Texas
League and plan to relocate the franchise to Round Rock.
