Stars IRVING, Texas (AP) - Darryl Sydor, a key member of the Dallas
Stars' defensive corps, has signed a four-year contract to end
his holdout. Sydor's signing through the 2001-2002 season ended a short
pre-season holdout. Since he refused an earlier contract offer,
he was not allowed to attend training camp. "He is a core member of our group and we look forward
to having him back on the ice," Stars general manager Bob
Gainey said. Sydor, 26, scored a career-high 11 goals and notched 35 assists
last season. He was second on the team in power-play points with
28 and also third in assists. Sydor had his first career hat trick
against Carolina on Jan. 3, 1998. Last season, the offensive-minded defenseman played in his
first NHL All-Star game for the winning North American team. Over 475 career games, Sydor has notched 41 goals and 166 assists. This will be Sydor's third season with Dallas, after spending
four years with the Los Angeles Kings. The only remaining holdout from the Stars' regular lineup is
forward Jamie Langenbrunner, who is seeking a raise over his $300,000
salary last year.
