State to NCAA Division II national championships as football coach
in 1981 and 1982, is returning to the school as athletic director. School officials made the announcement today. Wacker succeeds
Michael Alden, who took the athletic director's job at Missouri. "In all my years of coaching, we never had more fun than
the time when we were in San Marcos," said Wacker, who coached
the Bobcats for four years to a 42-8 record. "We are coming
home. My coaching days are over." Before coaching at Southwest Texas, Wacker led Texas Lutheran
to NAIA national championships in 1974 and 1975. Known for his over-the-top enthusiasm and animation, Wacker
later coached at Texas Christian, leading the Horned Frogs to
an 8-3 record in 1982 and the Bluebonnet Bowl. He most recently
coached at Minnesota. He left coaching with a final overall record of 160-130-3.
