DeBesse has been awarded a three-year contract extension, athletic
director Jim Wacker announced Thursday. Wacker made the announcement with two games left in what has
been a 3-6 season so far. The Texas State University System Board of Regents has approved
the contract, which will take effect Jan. 1. No terms were disclosed. All six Bobcat losses this fall have come against nationally
ranked NCAA Division I-AA teams. Its defense is ranked 19th in
the nation. Southwest Texas was 5-6 last season in DeBesse's debut year.
He said he sees the extension as a vote of confidence from the
regents and the university administration. "While there is a great deal of work to be done, we are
confident that we are establishing a solid foundation on which
to build this program fro the long term," he said. Before coming to San Marcos, DeBesse was offensive coordinator
for five years on Wacker's coaching staff at the University of
Minnesota.
