a two-game football series in 2001 and 2002, UNC athletic officials
said. Thursday's announcement came after discussions between the
two schools on whether to postpone or cancel the games. The discussions
began after former UNC coach Mack Brown resigned in December to
become head coach at Texas. "The two schools considered postponing the games out of
a concern that the games might have too much focus on the coaches,
rather the institutions or the student-athletes," said UNC
athletic director Dick Baddour. "However, we believe in the
larger sense this series is good for both programs." The Longhorns will host the Tar Heels on Sept. 8, 2001. The
Tar Heels will host Texas on Sept. 14, 2002.
