Texas coach gets public reprimand for remarks about officiating

DALLAS (AP) -- Texas coach Mack Brown has received a public reprimand from the Big 12 for remarks about officiating in the Longhorns' loss to Texas Tech last weekend.

"It is our conclusion that coach Mack Brown's statements violated the Big 12 Conference's Code of Conduct regarding public comments relative to officiating," interim commissioner Dave Martin said Friday.

After the 42-35 loss in Lubbock, Brown questioned an onside kick that Tech recovered and a pass interference penalty against the Longhorns. The coach also was upset that only a 15-yard penalty was called when a Tech player made a chopblock on linebacker Anthony Hicks. Hicks suffered a season-ending injury on the play.

The Big 12 code of conduct states that a coach can only say "no comment" regarding decisions by officials.

Big 12 rules also indicate that a second violation of the Code of Conduct results in a $5,000 fine, payable to the conference by the university, and a one-game suspension.
