Frustrated Aikman walks away during practice

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman walked away in frustration from the first team on Friday and began practicing with the second team.

The action was shown on Friday evening sportscasts on Dallas-Fort Worth television stations.

Aikman took a snap and dropped back, bumping into running back Emmitt Smith, who almost avoided a collision but didn't.

Aikman tossed the ball to an assistant and walked away. Later, he refused comment on his actions.

Offensive coodinator Ernie Zampese said he thought Aikman hurt the injured finger on his right hand.

"He was fine after that. ... There is frustration among all of us," Zampese said.

The Cowboys will miss the playoffs for the first time in six years. They fell to 6-8 with a 27-13 loss to Carolina on Monday night.

Dallas plays at Cincinnati on Sunday.
