Cowboys fire Hansen as announcer
By the Associated Press (Dec. 13, 1996)
DALLAS (AP) - Citing his rocky relationship with the Dallas
Cowboys' coach, Dale Hansen say Thursday that he had been fired
from his job broadcasting games on the team's flagship radio station,
KVIL-FM.
"Yeah, they just called me and fired me a couple of minutes
ago," Hansen told Dallas radio station KLIF-AM in an interview
with Kevin McCarthy. "So I wanted to tell you &emdash; since
I was trying to play the game the way they asked me to play it."
"They called me this morning and said the (firing) is
effective today," Hansen said. "So I am off the Cowboys'
radio broadcast."
Hansen, in his 12th season as a color analyst for Cowboys games,
has not had a working relationship with coach Barry Switzer since
a heated 1994 interview on live television.
"Barry Switzer and I obviously have a terrible relationship,"
he said. "And I ultimately trace everything back to him in
one fashion or another."
Also the sports anchor at Dallas television station WFAA, Hansen
was openly critical of owner Jerry Jones' handling of the Leon
Lett drug suspension. He said Jones was less than honest in his
dealings with reporters.
