Jones denies rumor he's considering hiring Lou Holtz

By the Associated Press (Dec. 31, 1996)

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Another day at Valley Ranch, another rumor for Jerry Jones to put to rest.

The Dallas Cowboys' owner denied Monday that former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz is in the team's future.

"It amuses me that somebody has put Lou Holtz on the scene with us just having won a Super Bowl and in the playoffs trying to win another," Jones said.

Jones has said several times this year that head coach Barry Switzer will be his coach next year and in the future.

"My goal with Barry Switzer is in the long term," Jones said. "Barry and I work so good together. We are on the same page. I like what we are doing."

Jones added, "some media and some fans just won't give it up."
