Irvin and Jones joke about next Cowboys coach

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Owner Jerry Jones and wide receiver Michael Irvin took time Wednesday from serious preparation for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins to joke about the Dallas Cowboys coaching situation.

Jones was being interviewed in the locker room about rumors concerning coach Barry Switzer's future when Irvin slipped in front of the cameras and said: "I want you to introduce me as the new head coach."

"Do you have any idea what a pay cut you're fixing to take?" Jones asked.

"I think I'll stay a wide receiver," Irvin replied.

Both laughed.

Jones later put cold water on reports former San Francisco coach George Seifert might replace Switzer after the season is over.

"I haven't even talked to Seifert, and there's nothing to it," Jones said.
