- The Cowboys scoring a touchdown in their 76th straight
game, topping the club record of 75 set from 1979-84. Entering
the season, Dallas has scored a touchdown in 69 straight games,
dating back to a 22-9 loss at the N.Y. Giants, Nov. 17, 1991.
- The Cowboys improving their NFL-best, opening-day record
of 27-8-1 (.764). Dallas holds the NFL record for consecutive
wins in opening games with 17 straight from 1965-81.
- The Cowboys capturing their fifth straight NFC Eastern
Division Championship, a feat that has never been accomplished
before in the NFC East.
- The Cowboys improving their NFC-best 58-30 (.659)
record against AFC foes in games against Buffalo, Indianapolis,
Miami and New England.
- The Cowboys increasing their club record, 46-game
(regular season and playoffs) sellout streak at Texas Stadium.
- The Cowboys increasing their club record, 89-game
(regular season and playoffs) sellout streak, both home and away.
- The Cowboys establishing a club record for consecutive regular-season
punts without a block. Entering 1996 the Cowboys current
streak is 385, while the club record stands at 396.
- Troy Aikman becoming the Cowboys all-time passing
yards leader. Aikman is currently third with 19,607 yards, trailing
Roger Staubach (22,700) and Danny White (21,959).
- Troy Aikman throwing the 100th touchdown pass of his
career. Aikman currently has 98 career touchdown tosses.
- Troy Aikman establishing a new club record for pass
completions, topping Danny White's record of 1,761. Aikman currently
has 1,704 completions. Aikman can also establish a new Cowboys
record for pass attempts, topping Roger Staubach's record of
2,958. Aikman currently has 2,713 attempts.
- Bill Bates playing in his 200th career game. He has
played in 187 regular-season games entering 1996.
- Bill Bates and Mark Tuinei playing in their
14th season with the Cowboys. Only Ed "Too Tall" Jones,
with 15 seasons, has spent more years in a Cowboys uniform.
- Chris Boniol extending his club record streak of 25
consecutive field goals. He will also be looking to break the
NFL record of 31 set by Fuad Reveiz in 1994-95.
- Chris Boniol adding to his streak of eight straight
games with a field goal, the club record is 11 by Lin Elliott.
- Charles Haley recording his 100th career sack. Haley
enters 1996 with 96.5.
- Daryl Johnston moving into the all-time, top 10 receivers
in club history. Johnston currently has 214 career receptions,
and he is closing in on Ron Springs (222 catches) who stands
10th on the Dallas reception chart.
- Jay Novacek setting a club record for 100-yard receiving
games by a tight end. He is tied with Doug Cosbie for the record
at four.
- Emmitt Smith establishing an NFL record for career
rushing touchdowns. Walter Payton holds the league record with
110 touchdowns, while Smith currently has 96.
- Emmitt Smith extending his current string of 11 games
with a rushing touchdown, which ties the club record he set in
early 1995. He is two games shy of the NFL record of 13 set by
John Riggins and George Rogers.
- Emmitt Smith breaking his own club record for consecutive
games leading the team in rushing. Smith currently has a string
of 26 consecutive games, and his club record is 32 set from 1990-92.
- Kevin Williams establishing a club record for career
punt returns for touchdowns. He currently has three and is tied
for the mark with Bob Hayes and Kelvin Martin.
