Tampa tight end coming to Dallas
By the Associated Press
(August 28, 1996)
IRVING (AP) - Tyji Armstrong, a four-year veteran tight end who
was cut Sunday by Tampa Bay, has agreed to terms with the Dallas
Cowboys to fill the final spot on their roster.
The Cowboys have only one healthy tight end, Derek Ware, on their
roster for the season opener on Sept. 2 in Chicago. Jay Novacek
has a bad back, Eric Bjornson is bothered by a hamstring pull
and Kendall Watkins was lost for the season with a knee injury.
Armstrong, expected to settle for the NFL minimum of $275,000
and a one-year contract, has a reputation of being a good run
blocker. He was a cap casualty in Tampa Bay, where he would have
made $800,000 this season.
