Man, the filter won't even let me put single dashes. Let's try two ... It's supposed to be (pronounced coosh-eyet) C--u--s--h--i--t--e. Cush was the father of Nimrod and I think all the descendants were called Cush(eye)ts

Janna, thanks for that explanation from 2 Samuel. Sorry the automatic filter messed up the word C-u-%$#&!%-e several times. Danny

Trying to find the meaning for Ahimaaz, I find that it is a biblical name with a lot of meaning. It is very hard for a man to stand idly by and watch others be "used" in service to the King. We find our identity in our works, even those works we supposedly do out of love for God. There is a story in the Old Testament about such a man. His name was Ahimaaz, the son of the high priest. Absalom, King David's son, had risen up against David and finally was killed in battle. Joab knew that he had to send word back to David that his son was dead, and chose a foreigner among the ranks to take David the sad news of the death of his son. But Ahimaaz had a better idea. He wanted to run! 2 Samuel 18:19-33, NKJV 'Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Let me run now and take the news to the king, how the LORD has avenged him of his enemies." And Joab said to him, "You shall not take the news this day, for you shall take the news another day. But today you shall take no news, because the king's son is dead." Then Joab said to the Cu%$#&!%e, "Go, tell the king what you have seen." So the Cu%$#&!%e bowed himself to Joab and ran. And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, "But whatever happens, please let me also run after the Cu%$#&!%e." So Joab said, "Why will you run, my son, since you have no news ready?" "But whatever happens," he said, "let me run." So he said to him, "Run." Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain, and outran the Cu%$#&!%e. Now David was sitting between the two gates. And the watchman went up to the roof over the gate, to the wall, lifted his eyes and looked, and there was a man, running alone. Then the watchman cried out and told the king. And the king said, "If he is alone, there is news in his mouth." And he came rapidly and drew near. Then the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, "There is another man, running alone!" And the king said, "He also brings news." So the watchman said, "I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok." And the king said, "He is a good man, and comes with good news." And Ahimaaz called out and said to the king, "All is well!" Then he bowed down with his face to the earth before the king, and said, "Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who raised their hand against my lord the king!" The king said, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" Ahimaaz answered, "When Joab sent the king's servant and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I did not know what it was about." And the king said, "Turn aside and stand here." So he turned aside and stood still. Just then the Cu%$#&!%e came, and the Cu%$#&!%e said, "There is good news, my lord the king! For the LORD has avenged you this day of all those who rose against you." And the king said to the Cu%$#&!%e, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" So the Cu%$#&!%e answered, "May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise against you to do harm, be like that young man!" Then the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus: "O my son Absalom--my son, my son Absalom--if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!" (2 Samuel 18:19-33, NKJV)We in our fallen natures very much want to run. We see a great commotion and want to be part of the action, even if we don't have a clue what it is all about. Joab knew that Ahimaaz was a "good man." He also knew it was not his day to run for he had no message to bear.'

Here's a recent post from distant cuz Howard George, who had some interesting insights on the Perot/Bordelon line: ---- Mr. Reagan, I would bet that Marie R. Bordelon and Rosalie Bordelon are the same person In Natchitoches Ph. some times the date you see in the records is the date the marriage license was issued, sometimes it was the date the couple were married, sometimes it was the date the license was returned, sometimes it was the date it was recorded and sometimes two of those dates were recorded. To complicate the lives of researchers, the dates recorded in the church records do not always agree with the civil records. To further complicate things, a couple might wait until after the birth of a child (or children) to legitimize the child/children by a church and/or civil marriage. I have been researching the ancestry of one of my cousins who is descended from Cyriaque Perot and Marie Rosalie Bordelon. By the way, I would also bet that his full name wasn't "Cyriaque Perot". He would certainly have had a baptismal name in front of Cyriaque and probably another personal name. I have not been able to say with certainty who his parents were but I believe they were Jean Baptiste Perot and Felicite Trichel. In 1850 there were only eighteen dwellings between them in Natchitoches Ph. I am still working on those folks and if I turn up anything I'll let you know. Howard George

The following came from a "cousin" recently. ---------------------------------------- I believe Jonas Spiva may be my great great great grandfather. I believe one of his sons, William Alford Spivey b. 1770-77 in Buncombe (or Berite?) County NC and d. 1861 in Buncomb County NC. One of his sons was Lorenzo Dow Spivey b.1819 in Buncombe County NC and d. 1900 in GA. One of his sons was Marion Alexander Spivey b.1879 in GA and d.1963 in GA. One of his sons was William Loranzy Spivey b. 1907 in GA and d. 1996 in IA. I hope this information is useful and I have more to fill in the blanks of my chain if you find it useful. I am very interested in the life of Jonas and those who preceded him. If you wouldnÕt mind sharing, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. Respectfully, Daryl L. Spivey

Here's another email from Dr. Mark David Drapeau concerning the Drapeau on the Reagan family tree .... "Hi again: Concerning this part of your history: Jean Baptiste Frederic Leonard b. 1715 ... d. 9/3/1740 Marie jenne Drapeau b. 10/17/1720 ... d. 1782 Which is when the Drapeau name disappears... ...I am pretty sure that Leonard is a new immigrant from Luxembourg, which I found interesting. There is definitely info available on the web about this marriage, I probably also have some in my files if necessary. " - Mark

A distant cousin sent me a recent email. Let me share it with you. He's on the Reagan side of the tree. I came across your genealogy page in my own searching. My distant grandfather was Antoine Drapeau, at the top of your tree. He came to New France from Canada in the early 1600s (don't have the details in front of me). He had about 8 children, and one of them, Zacharie (on your tree) was one of the original settlers of Mobile, AL. He then had a daughter who is also a relative of yours. I am descended from a different son of Antoine Drapeau, Pierre. So we are something like 8th cousins. Just thought I would write and fill you in on a little of the Drapeau family history, and let you know that there's a web page about it, if you search for "Drapeau family association". They do a lot of genealogy (though for what it's worth, you have found all the directly relevant Drapeaus). However, you may like to know who your distant cousins are!! For example, the singer Celine Dion is also descended from Antoine Drapeau and Pierre Drapeau, his son.

My great-grandfather, Patrick Henry Reagan,(1848-1885) was the first of the family born in the U.S. (Boston) after the family immigrated around 1844, just before the Famine. My grandfather, John Andrew Reagan (1873-1940) was born in Boston. He and his sister, Katie (1871-1965) left Boston with their widowed father after the latter developed tuberculosis. They went to Nebraska, where Patrick Henry Reagan's sister lived on a farm with her husband and children. No one in my family has been able to trace back before Patrick's birth, but I intend to make a go of it. Anyone know where to get an 1860 or 1870 Boston census? Thanks, Pat Reagan

To Merle at Beaumont, Your note about Emily Reagan being your g-grandmother was interesting to me as my g-grandfather was John (Nathan or Anthony) Reagan who some think is of your line but I still am not sure. A man several years ago from Beaumont stated definitely my John was from La. I talked to him on phone but as he had no computer, didn't continue communication. Would really like to compare notes with you.
